Noviembre, las últimas Anjovas.

   Acabando ya noviembre nos encontramos ante las últimas fechas en las que poder dedicar jornadas a la anjova.

   At the end of November, we are in the last chances to try to find the bluefish. 

   Con la llegada de un frente frio y vientos de norte el pasado fin de semana, decidí dedicar la mañana del sábado a tentar -quizás por última vez este año- a las amigas de dientes afilados. El panorama para otra pesca se me antojaba complicado, así es que agarré el equipo de spinning medio y metí en la caja algunos señuelos de poca profundicación, ya que el escenario elegido iban a ser playas someras de fondo mixto.

   With a cold front and north winds coming this weekend, I decided to go for bluefish on the saturday morning, may be for last time this year. Any other type of fishing felt not recommenbale with that wind situation, so I took the medium spinning tackle and put some surface lures in the box, because the spots i was going to fish where shallow beaches.

   Recorrí un buen trecho de costa sin dejar de lanzar, escudriñando cada palmo de agua sin rastro de peces hasta que, en un punto concreto donde la playa se hacía más somera, divisé un gran banco de lisas agrupadas en la orilla y nerviosas...

   I walked a long way casting all the time, searching in every inch of coast with no results. I kept trying untill I saw a massive group of mullets obviously nervous and very close to the seashore .

   Los latidos se me aceleran. Me retiro de la orilla todo lo que puedo. Lanzo con convicción de que están por allí. Ocho o diez lances con el Daiwa SL12Z y, al fin, noto tensión al otro lado de la linea.

  Comienza la pelea...

   My heartbeat quickens. I distance from the shoreline as much I can. I cast with conviction they must be over there. Eight, ten casts with the Daiwa SL12Z and, at least, I feel tension at the end of the line.

  Fight begins...

   Y así fue que esta bonita anjova posaba para la instantanea, cumpliendo el objetivo de la mañana.

   And that was how a nice bluefish posed for the picture, achieving the target.

   Las anjovas son peces muy deportivos, ofreciendo intesas batallas, sacadas de hilo contundentes, cambios bruscos de dirección, saltos fuera del agua. Lo cual supone un deleite para el pescador.

   Bluefish are very sportive fishes that fight with intensity, pulling on the thread forcefully, making sharp changes in direction, jumping out of water... everything needed to provide a delight for anglers.

   Como buena muestra de lo que os hablo acerca del comportamiento agresivo y carácter deportivo de la anjova, podéis ver el siguiente video en el que, tras lanzar un paseante y animarlo en "modo huida", conisgo clavar y disfrutar de la espectacular pelea que ofrecen estos pelágicos, que hasta en ocho ocasiones salta con su cuerpo completamente fuera del agua. ¡Todo un espectáculo!

   As a fine example about what i'm talking about the aggressive conduct and sportive character of bluefishes, you can see the following video, in which having casted a surface lure and retrieved it in "runaway mode", I could hook on a nice one, and enjoy with the fight these pelagics offer. Eight times you can see the bluefish jumping with his complete body out of the water. Quite a nice spectacle!

 

  Como podréis comprobar en el video, víendose la anjova presa del engaño, ésta empezará a hacer sus típicas cabriolas, cambios de dirección y saltos acrobáticos. Es aquí más importante que nunca el manter una tensión constante en la línea, dirigiendo siempre la caña hacía la dirección que tome la anjova para evitar los indeseables roces del terminal con las espinas, opérculos branquiales y otras partes cortantes que pudieran seccionar el terminal o debilitarlo lo suficiente para provocar una rotura al forzar la tracción.

   As you can see in the video, when the bluefish feels endangered, it will start jumping and capering all around, it is that time when it's more important to keep the line tight and never loose tension on it. Allways facing the tip rod where the bluefish goes on his changes in direction in order to prevent leader friction with the spines and branchial operculum, which could cut the leader or weaken it as much it can breaks when pulling. 

   En la próxima temporada, cuando vuelva la primavera y, con ella, los pelágicos a las playas mediterráneas, hablaremos en mayor profundidad de la anjova, materiales que empleo para su pesca, señuelos y sus técnicas de animación, escenarios para su pesca, conceptos biológicos, etc... Hasta entonces, paseantes y poppers, esperarán en el cajón de los sueñuelos a que de comienzo una nueva temporada de pesca en superficie tras los carángidos.

   In the next seasson, when the spring returns and, with it, the peagics to our mediterranean beaches, we'll speak deeper about bluefish, materials I use to fish them, lures and the specific animation techniques for bluefish, fishing scenarios, biological concepts... So, by now, I'll keep the surface lures and poppers in the lure box till the next surface seasson in search for carangidae.
